Smallville Lana, played by Kristin Kreuk, is the love interest of the young Clark Kent, also known as Superman. The Smallville Lana is featured in a lot of episodes in which she temporary gets powers, or she is exposed to personality-changing events, or needs to be rescued from life-threatening danger.

Smallville Lana is Clark's high school crush, and he also carries the guilt for her orphanage, as the arrival of his spaceship heralded the meteor shower that killed her parents and resulted in her living with her aunt, Nell. Smallville Lana is former Manager of the Talon, Lex Luthor's ex-wife, and Founder of the Isis Foundation (a non-profit devoted to helping 'meteor-infected metahumans').

Super fast, super strong, she can heal fast and even absorbe kryptonite. Smallville Lana was the rare teen beauty who had no idea how hot she actually was.

The Smallville Lana always knew Clark was hiding something, and to her mind this had always driven a bridge between them and prevented them from being together. The death of her parents when she was three was, apparently, very influential in shaping Lana Lang's personality. Despite the fact that her aunt raised and cared for her, Lana has felt like an abandoned orphan her whole life and idolizes her dead parents. She often states that she feels isolated and out of place and dreams about leaving Smallville for something more. Despite this, Smallville Lana developed a reputation for being a sweet girl – pleasant, caring, and eager to help others. She found herself without any family before she graduated from high school. With no one to rely on but herself, Lana Lang is quite driven to pursue her goals. Lana's relationship with Lex brings out a darkness that had not been seen in the character, slowly turning her into a Nemesis and upsetting her fans at the same time.

Sarcastically, Smallville Lana took self defense classes, but seems to always find herself in threatening situations, needing to be rescued. She once stated that she always felt she would die young. After undergoing treatment as part of Project Prometheus, Lana Lang was granted incredible powers. She also gets temporary powers from Clark (heat vision, X-ray vision, super hearing).

At the start of the show, Smallville Lana is characterized as "the girl next door". As Kreuk describes her, she is the "beautiful, popular girl who is really lonely". She has a "hole in her heart", because of the loss of her parents, and feels empathy for everyone. Kristin feels that deep down the character the Smallville Lana is a "tough girl", and that Lex manages to bring that side of her out more. She will always love Clark, but it was Clark's bad decisions, and Lex's basic instincts that make Lana Lang the "receptacle of all of these bad decisions", marking her as tragic figure on the show.

Lana's romantic relationships also reflect her personality; she places great trust in her partner and intensely relies on him for emotional support. The Smallville Lana is anxious to build a relationship with someone she perceives will trust her. Whitney Fordman was simple and unassuming, but they were no soul mates. Clark Kent protects her, but he doesn't trust her, so she can't trust him either. Jason Teague swept her off her feet in Paris, but he too began to hide things from her. Smallville Lana attraction to Lex Luthor was intensified by her belief that Lex was always honest with her.

Smallville Lana is a fictional, supporting character in DC Comics' Superman series. Created by writer Bill Finger and artist John Sikela, she first appears in the 1950s in Superboy. Lana traditionally has been Superman's romantic interest when they were teenagers in Smallville. Clark had been deeply in love with Lana throughout his entire youth. Smallville Lana appears in many adaptations of Superman, although her role is generally smaller.

Kristin Kreuk was born on December 30, 1982, in Vancouver. She was 'discovered' during her senior year of high school, when she was chosen for the role of Laurel in Edgemont. Kristin still resides in Vancouver, and for a few years in addition to appearing regularly on Smallville, she continued her role on Edgemont. You can also see Kristin on ads for Neutrogena.

Kristin Kreuk was first to be cast on Smallville. The producers were initially trying to find someone for the role of Clark Kent, but Kreuk was the first to be cast, as Smallville Lana. The casting director sent the director of the pilot episode, a tape of 69 people and the second person on the tape was Kreuk. They loved her audition tape so much they immediately showed her to the network. For one of her auditions, she read the graveyard scene with Tom Welling; the network thought they had "great chemistry". Kristin Kreuk is no longer a series regular on Smallville; however, she returns in Season 8.

personal life
Kristin Kreuk never thought she'd be going big time. She was initially planning to go to university for psychology or environmental studies. "Sometimes I love acting, but then sometimes I think it's too much for me and I don't know if it is something that I could do for the rest of my life. When I feel like I'm not learning or having fun anymore, then I'll stop.", said Kreuk.

Growing up she did gymnastics, swimming, martial arts, and theater (in high school). The Smallville Lana doesn't smoke and is a proud member of Greenpeace, Red Cross and UNICEF.

Off screen, the hazel-eyed beauty ranked #10 of "100 Sexiest Girls" in FHM UK and was listed as the 24^th of FHM's "100 Sexiest Women" in 2003. Kristin Kreuk was also voted the first of Femme Fatales' "50 Sexiest Women" in 2005. "Just because I don't do bad things doesn't mean I don't have bad thoughts", confessed Kristen.

Kristin Kreuk has a tight group of friends, and, in her spare time, enjoys spending time with them and reading. Because it rains so much in Vancouver, she and her Smallville co-star Allison Mack (Chloe) often swap books. Someday she would like to do some real traveling. "I'm obsessed with Brazil and I've always had this dream of backpacking through South America." Kristing Kreuk's middle name is Laura, she is 5'4' tall, and has a younger sister called Justine.
